1. What Emily is (and isn’t)
| Emily is | Emily is not |
|---|---|
| Academic help (explain, quiz, study plans) | A romantic / sexual companion |
| Campus logistics (hours, transit, reminders) | A parent dashboard that watches every chat |
| Student-controlled memory with export & delete | A replacement for teachers or clinicians |
| Hard safety boundaries by design | An essay mill or homework ghostwriter |
| Able to message a contact the student saved | Cannot place phone calls |
Students use Emily primarily on Telegram. Optional browser shells talk to the same Emily brain when enabled for demos/cohort.
There is no parent live dashboard.
2. Getting your student started
- Student opens Emily on Telegram and sends
/start. - They accept Terms (privacy · terms).
- Optional first-weeks coach (
/coach start) — short tips for living away from home (fees, safety, laundry, asking for help). - Optional product tour (
/tour) — seven steps covering study, campus, memory, and apps. - Day-to-day: they ask in plain English — explain photosynthesis, library hours, remind me tomorrow….
You do not need an Emily account to “monitor” them. There is no parent live-view of chats in the current product.
3. Safety & crisis
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Immediate danger | Student should call 911 (Canada). Emily is not emergency services. |
| Crisis resources | Student: /emergency — points to campus and national crisis lines |
| Mental-health ask | Campus counselling / Good2Talk-style resources when relevant |
| Trusted-contact offer | On some safety/health campus answers, Emily may offer: Want me to message a parent/trusted contact? — opt-in only |
| Blocked school topic | Student can /appeal if academic content was over-blocked |
Escalation policy (important): Emily does not auto-text you for routine study blocks or every sad day. Contact messaging is for student-initiated tell my mom… / alert my trusted contact flows, plus limited crisis/ops alerts configured by the operator — not a silent surveillance feed.
Family check-ins (student opt-in): /family checkin on · heading out to …, back by 10pm.
4. Privacy & data rights
| Right | How the student does it |
|---|---|
| See what’s stored | what do you know about me? · /memory |
| Pause new memories | privacy mode on · /privacy |
| Download data | /exportdata (ZIP) · export to Google Drive |
| Delete / wipe | /forget flow (confirm steps) |
| Linked apps | Google, Notion, Spotify, Uber — student OAuth; files stay in their accounts |
Emily does not copy the student’s Google Drive into a shared chat knowledge base. Drive/Notion stay under the student’s login.

5. What students commonly use Emily for
Useful conversation starters if you’re helping them onboard:
| Area | Example prompts |
|---|---|
| Study | quiz me on mitosis · study plan for chem midterm |
| Campus | gym hours · how do I contact the tutoring center? |
| Safety | I feel unsafe walking back to residence · /emergency |
| Life admin | remind me tomorrow to pay fees · where do I buy laundry detergent? |
| Message you | tell my mom I'm okay · tell my dad I'll be late |
| Apps | /google · /notion for calendar & assignments |
Full feature guide: Student User Manual. Live command list in Telegram: /help.
6. Academic integrity
- Emily explains and quizzes; Learning mode prefers hints over answer dumps.
- Proofreading returns scores and numbered fixes — not a rewrite of the student’s paper.
- College essay tools give structure/guidance — not ghostwritten applications.
- Career tools share exploration links — not job applications filed on the student’s behalf.
If something feels like cheating territory, Emily is designed to refuse or redirect.
7. Age, consent & schools
- Built for university students (sciences focus; first-year U level).
- Terms acceptance is required before normal chat (except limited exempt commands like
/help//emergency). - School / white-label packaging is on the roadmap — not the default consumer pilot.
- For schools: see positioning FAQ on emily-ai.net.
8. When Emily’s connection is down
Emily typically runs on a dedicated host with Telegram polling. If the host is offline:
- Study work in Docs / Notion continues as usual.
- Any temporary limited web chat (when offered) should label that it is limited.
- Outages may be noted via support channels; student can email support@emily-ai.net.
9. FAQ (parent-oriented)
Do you see everything my student says?
No. There is no parent live dashboard in the current product. You only get messages the student asks Emily to send, or rare configured crisis/ops alerts.
Can Emily call me?
No. She can send a message to a contact the student saved in Telegram contact flows.
Is this ChatGPT with a tutor prompt?
No. Emily has hard mode/safety boundaries, campus routing, mastery loops, and student data controls.
Will it replace tutoring or counselling?
No. It’s an augmentation layer. Crisis → /emergency and real-world services.
How do we delete data?
Student-controlled export and forget flows; see §4 and the Privacy Policy.
